The Elder Scrolls Online (ESO)

One of my all time favorite video games to play is The Elder Scrolls Online (ESO). I played the game for 2 years upon it’s release, quit, then picked it up again at the start of the COVID pandemic. This game is potentially my most time consuming hobby. Between the regular gameplay and the harder progression content I participate in and lead for others, I incorporate my game time into my weekly schedule. This post goes a little more in depth into my ESO “career” and the people I’ve been lucky enough to befriend.

About The Game

ESO is an MMORPG (Major Multiplayer Online Role Play Game) based on the lore of The Elder Scrolls fantasy world. It was released in April of 2014, and has since sold over 18 million copies.

There are all kinds of things to do in ESO. Some of the biggest aspects of the game include crafting, exploring, questing, trials and dungeons and PvP. Each part has exhaustive options for hours upon hours of gameplay. The options for customization are endless as well thanks to outfit styles and housing decorations, riding mounts and pets.

Me in ESO

Most of my characters resemble myself; short and red haired. When I played ESO when it released, I mainly did quests and followed the story line. I spent time talking to NPC’s (non-player characters) and collecting gold and materials. At the time I didn’t have much interest in PvE content, but I did participate in PvP in one my favorite DLC’s; The Imperial City.

I picked up ESO again in February of 2020 at the start of the pandemic. After a few months of playing with my husband and some friends, I began to branch into the content I’ve stuck with for the past 3 years, which is Dungeons and Trials. Completing the content is reliant upon either a group of 4 or 12 people (4 for dungeons, 12 for trials) working together to defeat the enemy NPC’s in the location. Each Dungeon and Trial has their own enemy bosses, mechanics to follow and rewards for completion. Additionally, each encounter can be completed in 3 different tiers of difficulty; normal, veteran or hardmode. The highest level of completion for these activities is to complete the hardmode version of the encounter within a certain amount of time and without suffering a group member death. This is also known as a Trifecta.

Trifecta achievements are what I enjoy working on with my groups of friends whom I have been able to meet and get to know (and even get to meet some in person).

My Guild

I run my own guild for Trials called Armifera Fatum. I have an amazing group of leaders, and together we host regularly scheduled trials for nearly 500 players. We run trial groups almost every day of the week.
If you’re interested in learning more about the guild, or about trials in general feel free to check out my Twitch, YouTube Channel or leave a comment below so I can reach out.

Friends in ESO

I’ve been fortunate enough to meet in person with a few of the wonderful people I play ESO with. I feel like meeting people online and getting to know their voice and tone before seeing their mannerisms in person makes the friendship unique. It’s easy to develop a mental picture of how someone speaks while having a conversation, and so much more fun to see it come to life. I’ve been on so many adventures with my online friends. We’ve created forever memories each time we get together. I’d honestly say that some of the friendships I’ve started in ESO have become lifelong friends.

ESO Notes

My explanation here is just the tip of the iceberg when it comes to ESO. Even though the game is nearly a decade old, there’s still plenty of gameplay for anyone looking for social engagement or to go at their own pace to complete objectives.

ESO is a lot like World of Warcraft. They’re both full of lore and content to explore. ESO isn’t a game I would recommend for a beginner gamer, unless you’re looking to learn a lot or for a fun challenge. Though it would be a blast!
