My Ibotta Experience

About the App

Ibotta is in short a cash back app for spending on groceries, household items and more. Many of the common shopping stores have items that you can want money back on by purchasing online or in store. The products and the money back change regularly and sometimes even include items that are free after their rebate. All you have to do is select offers before shopping, then scan your receipt showing you’ve purchased the eligible items. Within 24 hours you’ll receive a portion of what you spent back. You may also link to other store membership accounts to make this process easier. The total you earn can later be cashed out to your bank account or to a gift card or your choosing.

My Ibotta

I’ve been using Ibotta for about 4 years now. When we were living in California and working hard to pay down our total amount of debt, I began my couponing. I tried many apps before I found a few I liked best. I did not use it while I was living in Canada, but since moving to Virginia I’ve picked it up again (spoiler alert, I’ve already cashed out $30 in 2 months).

There are so many cash back or coupon apps to choose from, and it’s hard to know what’s worth your time and what isn’t a scam.

Ibotta actually pays you what you earn. I’ve earned over $150 from using this app for money back on my regular purchases.

Making Ibotta Worth It

Once you get started by creating an account (if you’d like to use my referral code here, we’ll both receive an extra $10 when you redeem your first offer) it’s quick to pick your favorite stores and start viewing offers available at each one.

My best advice is to only favorite the stores you regularly shop at. All stores are available to view, but if you’re in a rush and need to see your favorites quickly it’s better to only have a few selected.

I usually grocery shop once per week. When I sit down to write out my meal plan and grocery list, I also scroll through the offers available at the store)s) I’ll be shopping at.

My next best piece of advice is don’t just buy stuff because there’s a rebate for it. It makes it way too easy to overspend. I don’t just grab groceries because they have an Ibotta offer. The offers available may influence the brand I try, or whether I buy two of something rather than just one, but I don’t use most of the offers available at any given time.

This isn’t going to make you any extra money fast. I usually “make” about $15-20 per month using Ibotta and getting money back from my grocery shopping. But saving nearly $250 on groceries a year doesn’t sound too bad!

The “free after offer” items are not always available. If these are available and you want to try the item, go for it! They really are “free” once you pull your earnings out of the app.

Additional Ibotta Tips

It’s good to know that once you start using Ibotta and making money, you need to keep using it. After a certain period of inactivity they will take back the money you’ve earned until your balance reaches $0.00 again.

This takes quite some time to happen, but it did happen to me in the year I lived in Canada.

There are also Facebook groups for Ibotta shoppers to share deals with each other or ways to make extra money back with the bonuses offered in app.

Get started with Ibotta by using my referral code here – USGUAQJ . Then, once you submit your first receipt, you’ll receive a $5 bonus! http://ibotta.com
